CEM works on a bespoke basis giving a client an advantage over its competitors who may not have identified a unique pool of KOLs / EEs. We pride ourselves on our ability to understand a client’s brief and deliver added-value results.
CEM can adapt and flexibly respond to briefs that are often beyond the abilities of our competitors. We are not constrained by the size of the therapy area or geography. CEM’s systematic and robust approach provides the different functional teams within a client with a common decision-making platform. We have worked on early stage projects right through to Phase IV.
CASE STUDY 1
Therapy area: Cardiovascular (hypertension)
Geography: Global
Stage: Phase IV
Brief: Audit and existing KOL list and identify rising stars to replace established KOLs on a speaker bureau.
Modified brief: During the project the client asked CEM to modify the recommendations to include KOLs with a specific focus on hypertension and metabolic syndrome. Also, they wished to identify client employees in development who had good linkages with high-profile KOLs.
Approach: CEM used our site of solutions to identify a pool of several hundred KOLs and then to filter this list down to key individuals who matched the required profile. Using advanced analytics, we were then able to recommend substitutes for the retiring KOLs.
Project results: CEM delivered interim and full results on schedule and within budget, responding flexibly to client requests.In addition to our normal solutions we used some in-depth keyword analysis to ensure that our recommendations matched the client’s desired profiles.We provided value-added insights.
CASE STUDY 2
Therapy area: Various biologics indications
Geography: Latin America (focusing on top 5)
Stage: Phase IV
Brief: Our client was a major US pharmaceutical group who wanted to identify the relevant External Experts (EEs) for 3 products (in 5 indications) in 5 key Latin American Countries. The client wanted to know the number of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) required to resource these countries (and where they should be located) in order to maintain effective and compliant relationships with the EEs.
Approach: CEM used our analytic abilities to gain a picture of the number and distribution of the External Experts across the geographies. Network mapping allowed us to add further insights into the peer role of the identified EEs. We then used a specially developed tool to analyse the resource needed by the client.
Project results: CEM delivered full results on schedule and within budget, communicating in an open and collaborative manner. We provided value-added insights.

Therapy area: Consumer health – Dental
Geography: Global
Stage: Post-launch – Marketed direct to consumers
Brief: Our client was the consumer health division of a large corporation who wanted to increase their knowledge of the key external experts in various aspects of oral health.
Approach: CEM used our analytic abilities to identify over 250 relevant key external experts and rising stars. Using tagging we could segment the results to ensure that the client’s challenging brief was met. We used collaboration mapping to show various patterns that were of interest to the client. Rising stars and competitor links were also identified during the project.
Project results: CEM delivered full results on schedule and within budget. The results confirmed the client’s pre-existing knowledge but additionally gave them a wider and more in-depth intelligence. This has enabled them to move forward with productive relationships that have been beneficial commercially. We provided value-added insights.
CASE STUDY 4
Therapy area: Degenerative eye disease
Geography: UK
Stage: Phase III
Brief: Our client had a new agent in development with a target indication for an advanced form of a degenerative eye disease. They already had identified possible therapy area experts (TAEs) but wanted CEM to audit their list and recommend an extended list of TAEs. The client also wished to analyse the collaborations of the recommended TAEs to show the extended network.
Approach: CEM used analysis of a tailored dataset, combined with desk research to identify TAEs who matched the client’s profile. We provided value-added insights and recommendations.

Stage: II
Brief: The client was a major European pharmaceutical company with a product in early development (Phase II). The team wanted to identify the top Global KOLs who they could use for consultancy and strategic advice. The client also wanted to validate a list of existing contacts.
Approach: CEM identified a group of 130+ leading KOLs.
Project results: CEM delivered full results on schedule and within budget. The results validated the client’s pre-existing list of contacts but the additonal intelligence provided by CEM gave them knowledge of a wider group of unknown KOLs.
